Greater Noida residents protest against RMC plants causing pollution

Greater Noida West, Sector-1: Over half-a-dozen ready-mix concrete (RMC) plants operating in Sector-1 are spreading heavy dust pollution, endangering residents’ health. On Sunday, hundreds of people marched through the streets of Aish Divino Society and neighbouring complexes, waving banners and posters demanding the immediate closure of all such units.

Dust enters homes daily

Residents said wind-borne dust from the RMC facilities settles inside homes, forces them to keep windows shut, and leaves balconies caked in several inches of grit. People now routinely wear masks when they step into parks or step-outs; children and the elderly are the worst affected.

Earlier pleas ignored

Complaints made earlier to the Greater Noida Authority have brought no response, the protesters alleged. Meanwhile, the number of RMC plants in the area is growing. The approach road from Rise Chowk to the societies is broken and unmaintained, adding to the dust kicked up by passing vehicles. Sunday’s march was organised to place these grievances directly before the Authority once again.
