Greater Noida. On Sunday night, Beta-2 police spotted four suspicious men sitting in two cars near Gamma-1. When officers moved in to question them, the occupants tried to flee.

The police gave chase. As they were about to be cornered at the DPS crossing, the suspects fired at the team. Officers returned fire, wounding two suspects in the legs before arresting all four.

Wounded: Manoj from Bisauli police station, Badaun, and Ankit from Firozabad. A countrymade pistol and cartridges were recovered from them. Their accomplices are Rahul from Tilhar, Shahjahanpur, and Manish from Agra.

From both vehicles, police seized a Swift, a stolen tyre-rim stock of 20 rims plus 10 alloy wheels, two jacks, tyre levers and Rs 4,200 cash. The gang surveyed residential areas, stole tyres parked outside houses, then stored them in their cars and sold them to recipients named Jākir and Harsh.

Bisrakh pol­ice encountered another thief late Sunday while conducting vehicle checks. When signalled to stop, the man on a motorcycle tried to escape, fired at police, and was shot in the leg. He is Pawan of Jalali village, Aligarh. He was carrying a pistol, cartridges, a bike, phone and Rs 5,000. Records show 14 prior cases against him for theft and robbery.
