Vivek Vidyalaya & Junior College is a well-regarded, semi-English medium school located in the heart of Mumbai’s western suburb, Goregaon (West). Established in 1965 under the auspices of the Vivek Education Society, the institution was the first major project undertaken by that trust and has since evolved into a composite complex from pre-primary through junior-college level (Std. XI–XII). Affiliated to the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary & Higher Secondary Education, the school counts roughly 4,000 students and 200 faculty and support staff on its permanent campus, a 7½-acre plot that provides a rare expanse of playing fields in an otherwise congested metropolis.
Academically, the school maintains a steady record of producing SSC and HSC toppers. From Std. I onward a balanced curriculum is pursued: Marathi, Hindi, English, Mathematics, General Science and Social Studies form the core, while Value Education and General Knowledge classes are timetabled twice a week. From Std. V students follow a modern ICT programme (Windows and open-source labs, each seating thirty pupils) and from Std. VIII they select either Sanskrit or German as an optional third language. When students enter the junior-college section they choose among Science, Commerce and Arts streams; the Science faculty is particularly strong, with sections for NEET and JEE mains blended coaching through tie-ups with reputable external institutes.
The campus itself is divided into five independent but contiguous blocks. The Pre-Primary block houses cheerful, air-conditioned “Smart 60” classrooms where lessons are supported by interactive whiteboards. A distinct Primary Wing (Std. I–IV) contains the school’s award-winning Library-in-the-round, stocked with 12,000 volumes in English, Hindi, Marathi and Sanskrit. The Secondary Wing—designed on the Gurukul pattern—features two composite science laboratories, a Mathematics learning centre and the Atal Tinkering Lab sponsored by NITI Aayog, where students tinker with 3-D printers and Arduino kits. On the far side of the quadrangle, an air-conditioned auditorium with digital projector and raked seating for 600 hosts the annual Vivek Lit-Fest and Inter-School Science Symposium.
Sports facilities include a 200-metre all-weather athletic track, a Football-cum-Hockey field laid to FIFA specifications, two Basketball courts, and a semi-indoor complex with Badminton, Table Tennis and Yoga halls. Every Friday the Composite Games slot ensures every student picks up at least one formal discipline—from Mallakhamb to Lawn-Tennis—under the supervision of SAI-certified coaches. Cultural life is equally vibrant, with 24 clubs and five major festivals charted across the calendar: Sanskrit Saptah, Hindi Diwas, Marathi Bhasha Gaurav Din, the inter-house Performing Arts Fest, and the Grand Annual Day.
Administration has transitioned smoothly to a hybrid paperless model: the ‘Vivek Connect’ ERP gives parents real-time attendance, homework and fee receipts on mobile phones; RFID card swipes on buses generate instant SMS alerts. Fee structures adhere to the Fee Regulating Authority norms, with need-cum-merit based freeships extended to approximately 10 % of the roll. The school’s mission statement—“Sa Vidya Ya Vimuktaye”—is embossed on the central foyer; every child entering or leaving passes it, a quiet reminder that the institution still sees its highest purpose as the liberation of the human mind through responsible education.
