V Rock Music Academy is a forward-thinking, community-driven school designed for aspiring rock, alternative, and indie musicians who want real-world skills as much as theory. Founded in 2014 by veteran guitarist and producer Max Vega after he tired of “sterile, classical-only” lesson centers, the academy fast became the Pacific Northwest’s go-to hub for players aged seven to fifty-seven who crave loud amps, creative freedom, and industry connections. Located on the top two floors of a renovated 1928 warehouse in Portland’s Pearl District, the space preserves its brick-and-timber bones while packing in three acoustically treated rehearsal suites, a fully analog/digital recording studio, and the signature “Red Stage,” a 250-cap club-style room complete with full light rig, two Fender HRD stacks, Ampeg SVT fridge, DW Performance kit, and a 32-channel Presonus Quantum-F front-end. Every weekend that stage opens to ticketed public gigs so students learn show production from load-in to merch count.
Curriculum follows a modular “90-day mission” model rather than endless grading tiers. Beginners start with the four Core Tracks—Electric or Acoustic Guitar, Bass, Drums, or Vocal Power—meeting twice weekly in groups capped at five, private coaching once a week, and a performance rehearsal every fourth Saturday. Intermediates apply to one of six Specialty Labs: Metal Mayhem, Neo-Soul Groove, Synth-Wave Production, DIY Touring, Home Recording Ninja, or “From Riff to Release” songwriting.
