Scholars Home International School (SHIS) sits on a 7.2-acre eco-friendly campus on the southern outskirts of Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Founded in 1992 by the non-profit Doon Valley Education Trust, the school began with 87 students in a single L-shaped block; three decades later it is home to 1,490 learners from Montessori-1 to Grade XII, representing 18 Indian states and 12 countries. Two major expansion waves—2008 and 2018—have added an Olympic-sized synthetic track, a 25-m indoor swimming pool, and the state’s first school-based planetarium.

The curriculum is truly triple-stream. Students choose either the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) route, the Cambridge IGCSE continuum, or the IB Diploma Programme, all delivered under one roof and supervised by three separate academic deans. Average class size is 24 for pre-primary and 28 for senior years. Special programmes include the SHIS Research Scholars Scheme in Grades IX-XII, where every student must complete a year-long, mentor-guided project culminating in a public exhibition judged by university professors. JEE/NEET, SAT and UCAS counselling is provided by an eight-member in-house team.

Faculty strength stands at 147, 71 % of whom hold master’s degrees and 37 % have taught overseas in IB/IGCSE schools. Teachers undergo 50 contact hours of professional development each year through partnerships with Teacher’s College, Columbia University, and the Singapore International School Leadership Centre. The teacher–student ratio of 1 : 10 is among the lowest in North India.

Beyond academics, the school offers 42 co-curricular electives. The Performing Arts Centre comprises a 400-seat auditorium, four sound-proof music labs and a black-box theatre equipped with Meyer sound systems. Sports facilities extend to two FIH-grade astro-turf hockey pitches, six FIBA-spec basketball courts and a ropes-adventure course certified by Outward Bound. Dedicated coaches for squash and shooting include two former Commonwealth medalists.

Residential life is housed in four gender-segregated wings named after Himalayan peaks—Kamet, Nanda Devi, Trishul and Dunagiri. Air-conditioned quadruple rooms for Grades IV-VI transition into double rooms for seniors. Boarders have daily supervised prep from 7 – 9 p.m. and access to a late-night study café until 11 p.m. Wellness care is delivered via a 12-bed infirmary staffed by two paediatricians, three nurses and a visiting psychiatrist; annual health camps partner with Max Super-Specialty Hospital.

The annual fee plateau varies: CBSE day scholars pay INR 3,32,000; full-term boarders in Grades XI-XII under the IB Diploma pay INR 9,48,000. 17 % of students receive need- or merit-based aid, funded partly through the SHIS Scholars Foundation endowment of ₹16 crore. Recent graduates claimed 18 Ivy League / Oxbridge placements (class of 2023) while 67 % scored above 1400 in term-time SAT attempts taken on-site.

The school’s motto, “Sapere Aude – Dare to Know,” is carved above the main gate in devanāgarī and Latin; it serves as both greeting and exhortation to every entrant.
