NVS Public School is a co-educational English-medium institution sponsored and managed by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti-an autonomous body of the Ministry of Education, Government of India. Celebrated as “NVS” across the country, these schools were born in 1986 from the National Policy on Education’s dream of nurturing gifted rural children into empowered national citizens. At present the family has grown to 661 residential Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, each one situated in a rural taluk of every district. Two additional JNVs, later renamed NVS Public Schools, now stand proudly in Ladakh and in New Delhi to extend the mission to metro students while retaining the same core ethos.
Affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE. No. 740002) up to the Senior Secondary stage, the school follows the 10+2 pattern. It is co-educational, secular and fully residential—tuition, board, lodging, textbooks, stationery and uniforms are provided free of cost to all admitted students. Entry is through an all-India entrance examination—JNVST—held in Class VI; lateral admissions to Class IX and XI are also possible on merit. Nearly 80 % of the seats are reserved for rural candidates, with balanced quotas for SC, ST and OBC communities and 33 % for girls.
From Grade VI onward the curriculum is common all-India, updated by NCERT and enriched by Navodaya-specific modules in English and computer literacy. Special focus is given to the Three-Language Formula (English-Hindi-Regional Language) and to hands-on science through the Atal Tinkering Lab inaugurated in 2018. By Class XI students may choose Science, Commerce or Humanities streams with state-of-the-art laboratories, smart digital classrooms and a 1:15 computer-student ratio. Daily study time of three hours is rigorously monitored by resident subject teachers; remedial and peer-tutoring programmes pull up the slow learner while Advanced Learning Classes prepare IIT/NEET aspirants.
The 30-acre eco-friendly campus lies just three kilometres outside the district HQ town on NH-544. Wi-fi enabled academic blocks flank a 40,000-volume hybrid library, 20 science labs, 06 language rooms and 02 art studios. Residential life is in 12 dormitory houses—six for boys and six for girls—each under the charge of a House Master or Mistress and an Assistant. An all-weather mess serves balanced vegetarian meals planned by a qualified dietician. Indoor games, yoga and a 400-metre synthetic athletic track, a 25-metre swimming pool and courts for football, basketball and volleyball cater to both leisure and competition.
The pace of learning accelerates beyond textbooks. All students participate in a unique migration scheme that exchanges 30 % of Class IX batches between JNVs located in linguistic-border districts, nurturing national integration and bilingual proficiency. Students lead doorstep social initiatives—Digital Literacy drives, Swachhata Pakhwada, Jal Shakti Abhiyan—earning SEWA credits embedded in CBSE records. JNV alumni feature in Rhodes Scholarships, the Civil Services and the Armed Forces Medical College, a testament to what the red-brick arch of NVS Public School promises: excellence with equity anchored in the heart of Bharat.
