M.K.E.S English School, located in Vile Parle (East), Mumbai, is a co-educational day-school founded in 1982 under the aegis of the Maharashtra Kanara Education Society. Established with the vision to provide holistic, English-medium education that blends academic rigour with cultural pride, the school serves roughly 2,600 students from Nursery through Std. 12. Like most schools in the M.K.E.S fold, it draws heavily on the Saraswat Brahmin community’s traditional respect for learning, yet its doors have always been open to students of every faith and linguistic background.

The 2.7-acre campus centres around the four-storied main building built in the classic early-1980s Bombay L-shape. Bright corridors, named after Indian rivers to foster environmental awareness, link 52 classrooms, each fitted with digital smart boards and high-speed LAN. Other learning spaces include a renovated biology laboratory, two chemistry and physics labs (managed under the aegis of the Century department of IIT-Bombay), two fully equipped computer labs that meet CBSE’s 2-to-1 laptop ratio, and a commerce lab where Std. 11–12 students refine accounting and practical economics skills.

The school is affiliated to the CBSE (Affiliation No. 1130044) and follows Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation up to Std. 10. At the senior-secondary level students choose from Science (with Bio, IP or Economics electives), Commerce (core and vocational subjects), and Humanities streams; the average CBSE aggregate has ranged between 87 % and 90 % over the last decade, with two students making the national CBSE merit list in 2022. English being the sole medium of instruction, the curriculum also integrates Sanskrit as compulsory up to Std. 8 and optional thereafter, French introduced in Std. 6, and additional Marathi as second language. Value-education periods anchored in the Bhagavad Gita and a rotating roster of visiting psychologists foster both tradition and modern mental-health literacy.

Co-curricular life is churned through 33 clubs and five houses—Narmada, Krishna, Godavari, Cauvery and Tapti. Sports facilities comprise a 200-metre all-weather track, cricket nets, a football pitch, two basketball courts for girls and boys, two indoor badminton courts that double as cultural halls, and an undercover table-tennis arena with four imported Stiga tables. The “Kalangan” inter-house cultural festival every August attracts over 1,200 participants across oratory, classical dance and Western music; the annual “Srujan” science fair receives seed funding from alumni-led start-ups. Leadership is built through a robust Student Council and twin TEDxYouth licences held since 2018 and 2021.

Community service focuses on the adopted village, Shenva in Palghar, where students run digital literacy and waste-to-wealth drives in partnership with the UN-Habitat’s “Safer School” programme. An active alumni network, the M.K.E.S English School Old Students’ Association (MESOSA), provides annual scholarships worth over Rs 18 lakh and mentors current students for JEE, CLAT and CUET through zoom study-circles that run across time-zones, from the UK to Silicon Valley.

M.K.E.S English School believes that an institution must bridge its heritage with future freedoms; that vision shapes every lesson, play and stroll under its decades-old banyan shade.
