Dr. Antonio Da Silva High School and Junior College, Rajapur Bhatt & Ranade Roads, Shivaji Park, Dadar (W), is one of Mumbai’s oldest and most respected state-board institutions, founded in 1867 by the Portuguese Governor of Bombay as “The Upper English School.” Renamed in 1925 after the noted physician and philanthropist Dr. Antonio Da Silva, the school was completely taken over in 1976 by the Government of Maharashtra and has since operated as a semi-aided, co-educational, English-medium centre with secondary and Higher Secondary sections (Std V–XII). The sprawling, grade-II heritage campus combines Gothic-Revival stone façades, century-old teak staircases and high, louvred windows with modern re-fits—smart LED boards, fully-equipped composite and STEM labs, a 2-floor gymnasium, and Wi-Fi enabled library that holds more than 18,000 books and subscribes to e-journals through the Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation network.

Academic performance remains consistently above the Mumbai Division’s state-board average—2019-23 HSC Science stream posted 96 % overall with 37 students above 90 %. Parallel streams are offered at the 11-12 level: Science (PCM, PCB, PCMB), Commerce, and three vocational groups banking on NEP-2020 alignments. Co-scholastic initiatives include a MUN club that won Best Delegation at RajMUN 2023, an Atal Tinkering Lab whose student ‘Air-Bike’ prototype reached the national finals, and Yuvasamvad, a daily 7-minute student-radio window on AIR Rangooli 107.1 FM.

Games and fine arts thrive. The 8.2-acre plot accommodates two FIBA-marked basketball courts, a 200-m track, cricket and football pitches nick-named ‘Matoshri Meadow’, plus Kho-Kho & Kabaddi mats. Annual events house competitions in NCC, Scout & Guide, Kala-Utsav dance, and Western-band face-offs—former pupil and Hindustani vocalist Shubha Mudgal still visits to mentor rehearsals each December.

Social connect is woven through the Interact Club’s “Shala Mitra” rural immersion in Palghar, E-waste drives that topped 1.3 tonnes last year, and an “Archives Alive” project digitising century-old admission rolls rescued from fungus. The Parent-Teacher Association operates a noon-meal scheme adding fortified khichdi for 270+ under-privileged pupils, linked with the Annapurna Trust. Administered directly by the Deputy Director of Education, Mumbai region, the school today serves 3,400 students (52 % girls) guided by 102 teaching staff and 30 support personnel, continuing its 156-year legacy of combining solid state-board academics with cosmopolitan all-round development.
