Florence International School (FIS) is a private, co-educational day school that has been serving students from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12 since its founding in 2007. Strategically located on a single, self-contained campus in New Dubai (Al Barsha South 3), the school draws nearly 2,200 learners from more than seventy nationalities, creating a truly multicultural community whose shared language of instruction is English. The majority of the teaching staff—about 175 at present—hail from the United Kingdom and broader Anglophone world, while specialist faculty deliver Arabic, Islamic Studies and French in native-level depth.
FIS is licensed by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) and inspected regularly; its overall rating progressed from “Good” to “Very Good” in the 2023–24 cycle. The curriculum is hybrid: English National Curriculum benchmarks from EY1 through Year 9 are blended with Cambridge International syllabi for IGCSE at Key Stage 4 (Years 10-11). In Years 12-13 students may elect the International A-Level track or choose the IB Diploma Programme—an unusual but increasingly popular parallel model that allows learners to select the matriculation pathway best matched to university goals. Average IB points sit at 34.5, while 82 % of A-Level entries achieve A*–B, buttressed by a bespoke college-counselling suite that logs offers from Russell Group, Ivy League and leading European institutions (UToronto, HKUST and TU Delft this season).
The 37,000 m² campus is purpose-built: 124 daylight-optimised classrooms feature 75-inch interactive panels and simultaneous cloud recording; science laboratories are tiered to support both IGCSE practicals and IB IA research; a 400-seat black-box theatre doubles as a Dolby-equipped film studio. Specialist facilities include two STEM maker-spaces with 3-D metal printing, a robotics arena that fields VEX and F1-in-Schools squads, a dedicated music-suite with ten soundproof pods and a FIFA-grade 4G football pitch flood-lit for night tournaments. A newly opened 25-m indoor pool and learn-to-swim programme serves the primary section, while a rooftop skyline running track completes the athletics offering.
The pastoral model is house-based (Seville, Valencia, Granada and Madrid). Each house elects student boards that organize intra-mural competitions in debate, sport and enterprise. Digital safeguarding is reinforced through ‘BeFISe’ training across all year groups; literacy and SEND departments work through small-group pull-outs and push-in support. The daily timetable runs 07:30-15:00 with 90+ CCAs until 16:30—from fencing and financial literacy to MUN and K-pop dance—at no extra charge in the primary phase and nominal fees in secondary. Annual fees range from AED 36,750 (FS1) to AED 89,400 (Year 13), payable in three instalments; bursaries and merit scholarships of up to 40 % are available, with particular encouragement given to Emirati nationals and female applicants in STEM fields.
Transportation covers most of Dubai and selected Sharjah zones via a GPS-tracked fleet, while an onsite clinic staffed by a full-time paediatric nurse ensures compliance with DHA regulations. Admission operates rolling enrolment from September to May; priority is given to siblings and corporate partners.
