NPS International School – Singapore is an extension of the well-established National Public School network founded in Bangalore, India, in 1959. Opened in 2008, the Singapore campus was set up in response to requests from the Indian diaspora seeking a school that blends Indian educational values with internationally benchmarked pedagogy. The institution is housed on a leafy 6-acre campus in the east of Singapore, minutes from the Changi Airport hub. The setting allows students from Grade 1 through Grade 12 to study in airy, column-free classrooms that connect directly to shaded courtyards, science terraces and informal learning pods. Core facilities include three fully networked labs for physics, chemistry and biology, two design-and-technology workrooms, an IBM-funded senior computer science centre, 3-D printing decks and a TIDEL-certified innovation laboratory. An indoor sports hall (600 seats), a junior Olympic pool, rock-climbing wall, and a FIFA-standard artificial-turf field complete the outdoor infrastructure.

Academically, the school runs parallel streams from Grade 8 onward, allowing learners to opt for either the Cambridge IGCSE and GCE A-levels or the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Both tracks are taught by an experienced faculty drawn from 14 countries; over 81 % of teachers hold postgraduate degrees. The secondary school maintains a 1:12 teacher-pupil ratio and introduces vertical tutoring so that older students mentor younger ones once a fortnight. Value-added assessments conducted by UK consultancy ALIS and the University of Durham have repeatedly placed NPS International among the top 3 % of global cohorts for progress in mathematics, physics and economics.

Beyond academics, a unique “value-action team” model places every learner in a civic service group that partners with NGOs such as Habitat for Humanity Singapore and the SPCA. Annual Global Concern Week sees the entire timetable suspended for problem-solving challenges co-created with United Nations Youth delegates. The arts strand hosts an artist-in-residence scheme; the current collaboration with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra’s principal cellist delivers masterclasses within the curriculum for grades 5-9. Student media crews operate NPSI-TV, producing daily news for the campus and quarterly documentaries for Channel NewsAsia Foundation.

The residential life programme welcomed its first full-time boarders in 2021. Seventy en-suite rooms in two low-rise hostels overlook lily ponds and a mangrove strip that was rewilded by students. Safeguards include 24-hour professional boarding staff, biometric entry points and a 1:5 pastoral-care ratio. Applications for day admission open in May for the next academic year; interviews with parents and learners, plus a diagnostic placement test, follow in staggered windows between August and November.
