Sambhu Dayal Public School (SDPS) was founded in 1978 by the philanthropic Sambhu Dayal Trust in the developing township of Jagadhri, Haryana. Beginning as a modest single-storey structure with just four rooms, the school today occupies a 6.2-acre, Wi-Fi-enabled campus framed by neem and gulmohar trees, three kilometres from Yamuna Nagar bus stand on NH-344.
Affiliation & Curriculum
SDPS is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) up to the Senior Secondary level (Affiliation No. 530014). It runs three parallel streams—Science, Commerce and Humanities—and prepares students for the All India Senior School Certificate Examination. The curriculum blends CBSE-mandated NCERT texts with in-house modules on environmental awareness, financial literacy and design thinking.
Infrastructure
Academic facilities include a three-storey Atal Tinkering Lab, six ICT studios with 75 inch smart panels, three composite science laboratories, a robotics & AI centre, an auditorium (700 seats), two seminar halls and a fully automated library with 22,000 volumes plus an e-resource section. Sports infrastructure encompasses an Olympic-size 400 m synthetic track, two basketball courts (one FIBA approved), two volleyball courts, a heated swimming pool, a yoga hall, a 12-station gym and a 15-bed infirmary staffed by a visiting physician and two nurses.
Faculty & Pedagogy
The school employs 143 qualified teachers, 42 of whom have M.Phil or Ph.D degrees. Regular British Council and CBSE workshops support 20 Cambridge-certified master trainers who mentor newer staff. The pedagogical approach blends experiential learning with weekly field visits, peer-teaching Tuesdays, and flipped-classroom assignments supported by a bespoke LMS.
Pastoral Care & Life-skills
A house system named after Himalayan rivers—Ganga, Yamuna, Chenab and Ravi—shapes leadership, involving 720 students in literature, sports and STEAM competitions. The school enrols 2,174 students (46 % girls) and maintains a teacher-pupil ratio of 1:19. Trained counsellors deliver bi-weekly sessions and run a peer-support network called “Saathi”. The Interact Club organises street-theatre campaigns on menstrual health and anti-drug themes.
Achievements
Academically, SDPS averages a 98 % Class-X pass and 94 % Class-XII distinction record. In 2024, three students secured above 99 percentile in JEE-Main; one qualified for the national Informatics Olympiad. Sports teams have twice won the CBSE National Swimming Championship and the Haryana Zone Chess League. The Atal-tinkering team’s “Smart Broom for Road Dust Analysis” won the 2023 National Science Fair and is now being prototyped with IIT Ropar.
Co-curricular & Community Outreach
Annual flagship events include the Sambhu Utsav (3-day cultural festival), TEDxYouth@SDPS and a 36-hour hackathon, “CodeVeer”. The school maintains a 1-acre organic kitchen garden and donated 1,400 kg of vegetables to local food-banks last year; senior students also run weekend literacy camps for out-of-school children in nearby villages.
