(Written 2024-12-20)

Established in 1989 as a 120-bed charitable nursing home in the heart of Visakhapatnam, M G Hospital (officially “M G Super-Specialty Hospital & Research Centre”) has matured into a 450-bed, quaternary-care referral hub. The hospital is accredited by NABH and NABL and is presently recognised by the Government of Andhra Pradesh as a Non-Covid Corporate Empanelment Hospital under the CM-Jagan Aarogya Vaidya scheme, as well as Ayushman Bharat. From its inception it has been governed by the M. Gopinath Reddy Charitable Trust, whose charter dedicates 15 % of net operating profit to subsidised surgery for below-poverty-line patients and no-frills medication corridors.

Clinical breadth spans cardiology & cardiothoracic surgery, neurology, neuro and spine surgery, nephrology, urology, trauma & orthopaedics, obstetrics & gynaecology, neonatology (level-III NICU 25 cots), surgical & medical oncology, GI and hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery, bariatrics & minimally invasive endoscopy, dermatology, ENT, ophthalmology and dermatology. More than 40 full-time consultants and 70 visiting specialists operate 14 modular theatres outfitted with integrated anaesthesia workstations, laparoscopic 3D and robotic arms (da Vinci Xi) acquired in 2022. Diagnostic matrices include 3T MRI, 128-slice CT, digital PET-CT (installed 2023), 4D ultrasound, DEXA, electrophysiology and state-of-the-art cath labs.

The ED is a Level-II trauma centre receiving 120 walk-ins per day; it has in-house CT, point-of-care ultrasound, thrombolysis bay, triage nurse-staffing mandated by the AHA, and all-India Helpline ‘191911MG’ routed through an in-hospital control room. Helipad on the rooftop facilitates med-evac from offshore rigs and national highways. Blood bank is open 24 × 7 with blood component separation and both PRBC-VAD and apheresis; the facility is severe-haemophilia centre of excellence for Andhra Pradesh. An attached 50-bed step-down critical-care unit has ECMO capability praised by ICMR data monitoring.

Outpatient flow averages 1,500 patients daily across specialty OPDs, operated through tokenised kiosks, token and Health-ATM for vitals, paperless EMR (EPIC 2022) and real-time queue screens. Pharmacy inside the campus houses 12,000 SKUs and runs 24 / 7 robotic dispensing; a 30 % discount on Jan-Aushadhi generics for BPL cardholders is electronically synced with Aadhaar. Diet kitchen adheres to HACCP standards and prepares 1.2 million therapeutic meals annually; patient feedback is tracked with QR-coded menus.

Academically, the hospital partners with NTR Health University to run a 100-seat DNB residency and fellowship programmes in neuro-endovascular, cardiac-electrophysiology and liver transplant anaesthesia. Over 120 original papers indexed in PubMed have emerged since 2015; the in-house IRB is registered with ICMR. Community outreach includes weekly rural medical camps in 17 mandals of Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam, free cancer screening using mobile vans with digital mammography, school-dental and adolescent hygiene education. During Cyclone Michaung (Dec-2023) the hospital set up a 120-bed cyclone relief ward and distributed 25,000 post-flood hygiene kits.
