MD City Hospital is a 325-bed tertiary-care facility located at 1450 Medical Center Drive in the heart of Midtown. Recognized by U.S. News & World Report as “High-Performing” in cardiology, neurology, and geriatrics for three consecutive years, the hospital is owned by Atlas Health Systems, a physician-led nonprofit network that has served the Mid-Atlantic since 1998. Housed in a 14-story LEED-Gold tower opened in 2018, the campus also contains two attached medical-office buildings, a 650-vehicle parking structure, and a 32-room ambulatory surgery center operated by partner MidAtlantic Specialists.

Inpatient services are anchored by a 36-bed critical-care unit, a level-III trauma emergency department that treats 84,000 visits annually, and neonatal and pediatric intensive-care units supported by Children’s University physicians. The 48-bed stroke center was the first in the region to adopt a 24/7 mobile CT scanner in the ED, cutting “door-to-treatment” times for alteplase to 26 minutes. A comprehensive STEMI network and interventional catheterization lab perform more than 2,700 cardiac procedures per year and provide transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). Oncology patients have access to a 28-chair infusion suite, an on-site TrueBeam radiotherapy system, and an expanding phase I–III clinical-trials portfolio coordinated with St. Anselm’s Cancer Institute.

Outpatient facilities include the city’s busiest same-day surgery program (14,500 cases annually) and a multispecialty clinic staffed by more than 220 employed physicians and independent practitioners covering 45 subspecialties. A transitional-care unit and an inpatient rehabilitation floor (60 beds with CARF accreditation) anchor post-acute services, supported by home-health, telehealth, and wound-care clinics within a seven-mile radius. The hospital runs Midtown’s only 24/7 hospital-based psychiatric emergency service, evaluating 3,000 behavioral-health crises each year and connecting patients to its 20-bed adult mood-disorders unit and 12-bed adolescent service.

MD City’s commitment to technology is evident in its hybrid OR suites equipped with intraoperative MRI, robotic-assisted platforms (da Vinci Xi, Mazor X spinal robot, ROSA neuro-navigation), and a fully integrated Epic MyChart portal that allows patients to book visits, see test results, and communicate with providers from any device. A $47 million expansion starting in late 2024 will add a comprehensive women’s and children’s pavilion: 26 LDRP rooms, 16 NICU bassinets, and maternal-fetal medicine suites.

Financially, the hospital logged $738 million in operating revenue in the most recent fiscal year, of which 22 % was reinvested into indigent-care programs and community health initiatives. Through the MD City Cares mobile clinic and school-based health services, more than 9,000 uninsured residents receive free screenings, vaccinations, and chronic-disease management each year.
